1. Who we are
Amanah (“Amanah”, “we”, “us”) operates an AI-assisted legal research, drafting, compliance and matter-management platform for users in Ghana and across Africa. By creating an account or using the platform, you agree to these Terms.
2. Amanah is not a law firm
Amanah is a software tool. It does not provide legal advice, does not form an attorney-client relationship with you, and is not a substitute for a licensed lawyer. All outputs — research summaries, draft documents, contract analyses, compliance reports, answers in chat — are information produced by artificial intelligence.
You are solely responsible for: (a) verifying every citation, statute reference and case law reference before relying on it; (b) having any document reviewed by a qualified lawyer before execution; and (c) ensuring that outputs are appropriate to the facts, jurisdiction and matter at hand.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Amanah to:
- Generate or submit content that is false, misleading, or designed to deceive a court, tribunal, counterparty or regulator.
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your professional qualifications.
- Upload documents for which you do not hold a legal right to process, or which contain the personal data of third parties without an appropriate legal basis under the Ghana Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843), the GDPR (where applicable) or other applicable data-protection law.
- Attempt to extract, scrape, reverse-engineer or otherwise misappropriate the Amanah corpus, embeddings, or model outputs.
- Circumvent usage limits, rate limits, or subscription tiers.
4. Subscriptions and fees
Paid plans are billed in Ghanaian Cedis through Paystack (card, MTN Mobile Money, Vodafone Cash, AirtelTigo Money) or any other payment processor we may designate. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled. Refunds are handled on a good-faith basis per our published refund policy. [REVIEW: align wording with Ghana consumer-protection rules and Paystack merchant terms.]
5. Your content and our corpus
You retain ownership of documents you upload. You grant Amanah a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, process and analyse those documents strictly for the purpose of providing the platform to you. We do not use your private matter documents to train shared foundation models.
The Amanah corpus (Ghanaian statutes, case law, regulations, customary-law materials and our own annotations and embeddings) remains our property and may not be redistributed.
6. AI outputs and hallucination
Modern AI systems can generate plausible-sounding but incorrect text, invent statutes, misattribute cases and misstate jurisdictional rules. Amanah employs Retrieval-Augmented Generation against a curated corpus and verifies citations where possible, but cannot eliminate this risk. You must independently verify any citation before filing, arguing, or advising on it.
7. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by Ghanaian law, Amanah’s aggregate liability to any user in any twelve-month period shall not exceed the fees that user paid to Amanah in that period. Amanah is not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential or exemplary loss, including loss of profits, loss of business, loss of client relationships, or professional-indemnity exposure arising from reliance on AI output. [REVIEW]
8. Professional conduct
Users who are admitted to practise in any jurisdiction remain bound by the professional-conduct rules of their bar association. Nothing in Amanah overrides those rules. In Ghana, this includes obligations under the Legal Profession Act, 1960 (Act 32) and the General Legal Council’s code of conduct. If your regulator requires disclosure of the use of AI in client work, you are responsible for making that disclosure.
9. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms to reflect changes in the platform, law or regulatory guidance. Material changes will be communicated in-product or by email. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
10. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Ghana. Disputes shall be referred to the courts of Accra, subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rights. [REVIEW]
